Layers
PianoFlex can play up to four pianos at once. Each piano sits in a slot, and the four slots are named A, B, C and D.
Usually only one slot is on, and you hear one piano. Turn on two or more slots and their pianos play together, as layers: for example, a bright grand piano with a soft felt piano under it, or the same piano doubled an octave higher.
The slot boxes
Each slot has a box in the window. The box shows the slot's letter and the preset in it. A slot that's on, or whose layer settings you've changed, also shows a short summary of them, such as "0 dB, all channels", and says when it's muted or soloed.
- "editing" marks the slot you're working on. The panels of sliders show this slot's piano.
- On and Off show whether the slot is on. Click to turn it on or off (the last slot that's on stays on). You hear every slot that's on.
- S (solo) plays only the slots that are soloed, so you can hear one layer on its own. M (mute) silences a slot without turning it off.
-
Settings… sets how the slot plays as a layer:
- Level: how loud it is in the mix.
- Octave: plays it one or more octaves up or down.
- Delay: makes it play a little later than the others.
- MIDI channels: which channels it listens to. With this, a keyboard that sends different channels can play a different piano on each.
Moving between slots
Click a slot's box to work on it.
- When one slot is on, the sound moves to the slot you click. You can keep four pianos ready and switch between them as you play.
- When two or more slots are on, clicking a box only chooses which slot you're editing. All of them keep playing.
To copy the slot you're editing into another slot, hold Shift and press that slot's number, from 1 (A) to 4 (D).
Saving layers
Click Save preset… while two or more slots are on, and PianoFlex saves all of them together as one layered preset. When you choose that preset later, it fills the slots again.
If you choose a layered preset by mistake, Undo puts the slots back as they were.
