Presets
A preset is a kind of music, ready to play. It holds the list of ingredients and the settings that go with it: BPM, Scale, Key, Dynamics, Song variation, and the seed as you set it.
The built-in presets have the seed on auto, so they give you a new song of their kind every time you click Start. A preset of your own can also keep one song: see "Keeping a song as a preset" below. A preset never holds the phrase choices.
Choosing a preset
Click the name next to Preset at the top of the window. A list of presets opens.
- The built-in presets are in eleven groups: Classical, Jazz, Latin, Blues, Gospel, Funk & Soul, Ballad, Pop, Rock, World and Cinematic.
- The presets you've saved come last, under "Your presets".
Click a preset to choose it. You can also move through the list with ↑ and ↓, and press Enter to choose. The highlighted preset's description shows under the list, and typing a letter jumps to the next preset that starts with it. Press Esc to close the list without choosing.
When you choose a preset, ComposerFlex sets the seed as the preset has it. For the built-in presets that's auto, so every Start gives a new song of that kind, and your Minutes setting stays as it is. If choosing the preset would lose changes you've made, ComposerFlex asks you first.
Saving your own preset
- Change the ingredients and settings until you like the songs you hear.
- Click Save preset…, type a name, and press Enter.
Your preset now appears at the bottom of the list, under "Your presets".
- If you've already saved a preset with that name, ComposerFlex asks before replacing it.
- The built-in presets can't be changed or deleted. If you change one and save it under its own name, ComposerFlex saves it as a new preset of your own, and the built-in one stays as it was.
-
Your presets are kept in the ComposerFlex folder in your Documents, in a folder called
presets.
Keeping a song as a preset
A preset saves the seed exactly as you've set it. That gives you three choices:
- All three parts on auto: the preset gives a new song every time, like the built-in presets.
- Some parts set, some on auto: the parts you set stay the same, and the others change with each Start. See Songs and seeds for what each part does.
- All three parts set: the preset plays the same song every time, in the same version of ComposerFlex. It also keeps Minutes, because a song's length is part of the song. When you choose it, the yellow line says that it plays the same song every time.
To keep a song you like as a preset:
- While the song plays, click Use last seed, so that all three parts of its seed are set.
- Click Save preset…, type a name, and press Enter.
To hear new songs from the same preset again, click All auto.
To share a song, send its preset file to a friend: it's in your presets folder (see above). They put the file in their own presets folder, and it appears in their Preset list. The preset then plays the same song for them, in the same version of ComposerFlex. The phrase choices aren't part of a preset, so a phrase you've pinned isn't shared.
Deleting a preset you've saved
Choose the preset, then click Delete preset. ComposerFlex asks you first. Everything in the window stays as it is, so you can still save it again under another name.
If you delete one by mistake, it isn't lost. ComposerFlex moves it into a folder called deleted, inside your presets folder. To get it back, move its file from deleted into presets. It's back in the Preset list at once.
